I guess George didn’t have time to ask Geithner the Tax Cheat if he planned to actually pay the taxes he believes it might be necessary to raise. After all, Geithner the Tax Cheat says they must be prepared to “do whatever it takes”.
Raising taxes in a recession: well, it will allow the government to temporarily collect more revenue to spend on programs that add to the deficit. I guess that makes sense to some people who are looking to grab a positive headline in the short term.

Wasn’t short term thinking and quarterly results the classic narrative about the poor quality of US management in the car industry and cost the GM CEO his job? That’s right, it’s different if the government does it.
I wonder why the government isn’t subject to monopoly laws? The Framers ideas actually did set up a system whereby one level of government didnt monopolize public functions, but federalism hasn’t been seen lately; A hint of a whisper of the shadow of the memory of federalism hasn’t been seen lately.
